What is the Jerusalem Ascent?

Jerusalem Ascent is a new musical production inspired by the songs of ascent (or pilgrim songs) in the Bible (Psalm 120 – 134).  The show is planned for the September 2010, and is an original musical production by the Montgomery County Church of Christ.

More About the Songs of Ascent:

The songs  of ascent were sung by the Israelites as they journeyed to Jerusalem for the three great pilgrim feasts:

  • Passover
  • Feast of weeks (Pentecost)
  • Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths)

Males from all across Israel were expected to leave their work and families to make the journey for all of these feasts.  No one was to appear before the Lord empty handed – people brought bulls, lambs, goats, pigeons, turtledoves to the temple (depending on a person’s wealth) as an offering.

Our musical will follow these men on their ascent to Jerusalem, sharing their joys, troubles, and prayers along the way.  Won’t you come along?

We’ll be posting more information in the coming weeks and months leading up to the opening performance, including behind-the-scenes videos, interviews, and info about the play.

In the meantime dig into the songs of ascent (Psalm 120-134) and prepare to join us on our journey!
